Flexi membership at The Hertsmere gives you a bank of points to spend on golf as and when you play, starting from £300 a year for 120 points, with no joining fee, an official England Golf handicap, and a 14-day booking window. Instead of paying one large annual subscription and hoping you play enough to justify it, you only ever pay for the golf you actually get round to playing. For a lot of golfers, particularly those juggling work, family, or a commute in and out of London, it is the version of membership that finally makes sense.

The basics: points in, golf out
Flexi membership works exactly the way it sounds. You join from £300 a year, and that buys you 120 points to spend on tee times across our 18-hole Donald Steel parkland course. There is no joining fee, so the price you see is the price you pay. When you want to play, you book a tee time up to 14 days in advance and the points come out of your balance. Play a lot one month and barely at all the next, and it makes no difference. Your points sit there waiting for you.
Flexi is full membership, not a loyalty card. You get an official England Golf handicap, which means you can enter competitions, track your progress, and take your game to other clubs with a recognised handicap index behind you. You also get 10 per cent off at Script Restaurant and Bar, our Modern British restaurant overlooking the course, which is open seven days a week from 7:30am.
Why we built membership this way
Traditional golf membership asks you to commit a large sum up front and then rewards you only if you play two or three times a week, every week. That model works brilliantly for retirees and the truly golf-obsessed. It works far less well for everyone else, and "everyone else" is most golfers under 50.
We are 20 minutes from London, inside the M25, in Elstree. A big share of our golfers have full diaries, unpredictable weekends, and no interest in paying for rounds they will never play. Flexi flips the deal: the club carries the risk, not you. That is the whole philosophy here, golf without the gatekeeping.
Who Flexi membership suits
- Golfers who play once or twice a month rather than every weekend, and want each round to count
- Londoners and commuters who want a home club 20 minutes out, with over 250 free parking spaces when they arrive
- Newer golfers who want an England Golf handicap without committing to a full subscription in year one
- Range regulars who already use our 26-bay floodlit Toptracer range and want a low-cost route onto the course itself
- Anyone weighing up pay-and-play green fees who plays often enough that a points bank works out better value
And who does it not suit? Honestly, if you are playing three or four rounds a week, every week, a points-based membership is not the most economical way to do that, and a conversation with our membership team about other options would serve you better. Flexi is built for flexible lives, not maximum-volume golf.
Trying before you commit
You do not need to join blind. The course is pay-and-play, with the best rates available online, so you can get a round or two in and see how the par-72 layout suits your game before you sign anything. The white tees measure 6,376 yards, the yellows 6,053, and the reds play 5,464 yards as a par 75, so there is a sensible test from every marker.
If you want to sharpen up first, book a free 30-minute coaching assessment with our team, hit balls on the Toptracer range (open until 10pm under floodlights), or get properly fitted through our Srixon custom fitting service. Then stay for a Sunday roast at Script, dog in tow if you like, and see whether the place feels like home. We think it will.
