Script Restaurant & Bar

You do not need a tee time to get a table.

Script is the restaurant and bar at The Hertsmere in Elstree. With a balcony overlooking the golf course and a menu of modern British food, it stands as a destination in its own right, open to everyone, seven days a week from 7:30am, with the kitchen serving until 5:30pm and the bar open until 10pm.

The table

The menu changes.
The view doesn’t.

The menu changes with the season. British cooking, mostly, with the odd line that has travelled. The burrata gets ordered before people have read the rest of the card, and the chef stars his signatures for a reason: the Script club sandwich at lunch, the confit duck leg, and the Hertsmere burger after dark. Order one and you will see why it stays on.

The name comes from where we are, on the edge of Elstree, where British film and television has been made for nearly a hundred years. We took the studio word for it. Every service reads a little like one too, run from breakfast through to last orders at the bar.

It is a room you can sit in for a while. Coffee and breakfast come before nine, lunch runs long on the balcony when the sun is on it, and Sunday brings a roast, with a drink at the bar until ten any day you like. Come off the course or come without ever picking up a club. The table is the same either way.

Sirloin of beef, roast chicken, or a vegetarian option, all with Yorkshire puddings and the full trimmings. Served alongside the regular menu. The sirloin and vegetables have drawn particular praise. These sittings get busy, so it’s worth booking ahead.
